APSPBI Pre-ABM 2026 Day 1: Connect & Discover Gathers Strong Member Feedback on Strategic Directions
Surabaya, August 22, 2026 – The English Language Education Study Programs Association (ELESPA/APSPBI) successfully launched the first day of its “Road to ABM 2026” series on August 22, 2026. Themed “Connect & Discover,” Day 1 served as a strategic platform to inform members about ongoing initiatives and gather crucial feedback to shape the association’s future.
Strategic Forums and Member Opportunities
The session, opened by APSPBI President Dr. Ummi Khaerati Syams, M.Pd., introduced various academic and member development opportunities. These included the APSPBI Bulletin, Book Chapter program, and LAMDIK Camp. Furthermore, APSPBI previewed four strategic pillars developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), marking a significant step in national English education policy.
Strong Member Participation: “Your Voice Matters” Survey Results
A key highlight of Day 1 was the “Your Voice Matters” polling session, which yielded strong participation and clear directives from members across various regions in Indonesia.
- Institutional Development: a staggering 93.6% of institutions are interested in joining future development activities, with 91.5% keen on cross-institutional curriculum benchmarking. The top three priorities identified were Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and learning outcome alignment, lecturer professional development, and curriculum review/redesign.
- Academic Community & Publication: Surveys on Growing Academic Community and Publication revealed a massive appetite for collaboration. Research and Community Service (PkM) publications emerged as top interests, wanting to share PkM activities. Notably, 94.7% of respondents are interested in being contacted for collaborative writing.
- Expanding Partnerships: The partnership survey showed that 96% are interested in national collaborative activities, and 88% are interested in international collaborations. The top priority stakeholders for these partnerships are accreditation/quality assurance bodies and government/ministries.
- Strategic Initiatives Focus: Regarding the four strategic pillars, the survey on “What Are We Building?” indicated that “Primary English Teacher Development” is the highest priority initiative, with 52.2% of respondents choosing to join its specific Working Group (Pokja).
“The conversation starts at Pra-ABM. The decision happens at ABM,” the program book states. These member voices will directly guide the Working Groups (Pokja) in subsequent Pre-ABM sessions to produce a Strategic Recommendation Paper for the upcoming ABM 2026 in Jakarta.
